Our reports include summaries of projects that were interesting and other highlights of the year. We hope our reports stimulate conversations about who the HHE Program is and how we make a difference for the health and safety.

Summary ABSTRACTâ Inthe National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) asked the National Academies to evaluate the relevance, impact, and future directions of up to 15 of its research programs, including the Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) Program.

The Health Hazard Evaluation Program at NIOSH: Reviews of Research Programs of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Washington, DC: The National Academies Press. doi: / ×. 2 Description of the Health Hazard Evaluation Program INTRODUCTION The primary charge to the Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) Program, as de- scribed in Section 20(a)(6) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act; P.L.

), is to respond to written requests to investigate workplace health hazards. It is the unique mission of the Health Hazard Evaluation Program within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to respond to requests to investigate potential occupational health hazards.

In contrast to other NIOSH programs, the Health Hazard Evaluation Program is not primarily a research program. The National Research Council's Committee to Review the NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Health Hazard Evaluation Program reports on the impact and relevance of the NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation Program in providing information regarding substances in the workplace with potentially toxic effects.
